City advises of delay in re-opening of Killarney Community Recycling Centre

31 March 2026

The City of Cape Town advises residents that the re-opening of the Killarney Drop-off facility has been delayed, and is now expected to take place in May 2026.

The extent of the rehabilitation required is more substantial than first understood.

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of residents during this period. Every effort is being made to complete the work as efficiently as possible.

In the interim, residents are requested not to leave any waste outside the closed facility. Illegal dumping outside closed sites creates health and environmental risks and diverts resources away from essential service delivery. Visitors should please use the closest alternative drop-off facilities:

  • Tygerdal
  • Welgelegen
  • Vissershok (does not accept e-waste)

For a full list of City Drop-off facilities, including operating hours and accepted materials, please consult the official drop-off table: here
